Wangaratta dog trainer and behaviourist Frank Vickers is nationally accredited and based in north-east Victoria.
Frank’s training philosophy is based on dogmanship, which is about your ability to understand and interact with your dog.
A key focus of Frank's training is the use of affection and communication to build trust for a good working relationship.
You will learn to use hand signals and understand how valuable they are as visual cues to help guide your dog.
Frank will help you to read your dog by understanding its behaviour, motivations and reactions.
By reading your dog’s facial expressions, posture, displacement / calming behaviours, you’ll better understand your dog's emotional state.
Key to bringing this together is reinforcing correct behaviours by treating your dog with affection - not the distraction of food-based treats.
Frank’s experience is that over-reliance on food treats can inhibit the relationship from becoming deeper and more meaningful.
The truth is that food-based treats inhibit executive attention and impulse control in your dog.
The responsibility of owning dogs requires you to take the alpha role and lead, keeping them safe, teaching them where the benefit lies and giving them life rewards for being our wonderful companions.
